sharpei Interesting interview with Gigabyte creator of the Sharpei .NET virus
I thought some here might be interested in the below; because if I am not mistaken some here have had some dealings with her.  I am fairly certain 4Q and her have exchanged some words.  I also thought some might be interested in what she has to say about creating virus being ok and that she doesn't believe in spreading.  The video taped interview was on TV last night.  The below _link_ is to the full article and below the _link_ is an excerpt from it. It would seam that the trusty ole Commodore 64 even in this day and age is still useful to instill a desire to learn computer programming. http://www.techtv.com/news/security/story/0,24195,3382211,00.html Quote from above _link_: I figured out how to write a few lines of code on my uncle's Commodore 64, says Gigabyte, who just recently celebrated her 18th birthday. Later, I wanted to learn more about programming, so I went to the store and asked for books. The salespeople were surprised. It was like: 'Why do you want a book? Why don't you just buy a game and go play?'

OK, I read the article.   Gigabyte is a piece of shit, plain and simple.  Doesn't believe in spreading viruses?  Bullshit! But I guess I can't blame her too much; lots of people are immature dumbasses early in their lives.

But I guess I can't blame her too much; lots of people are immature dumbasses early in their lives. What I think some in the AV industry tend to forget is that a lot of the young people that are experimenting with virus writing are doing just that *experimenting*.  To a certain extent what they may or may not do with what they have learned is dependent on how they are treated by the AV industry. For instance virus writer ** may be on the borderline and deciding whether or not to release there creation or whether or not to make the source code available.  For what ever reason they see an article or new group post that calls all virus writers scum, and other names intended to inflame and cast any virus writer in a bad light.  It  **is** possible that had that budding virus writer not been called names that they would have been content to just write the virus see that it works on there machine or there local network and then that be the end of it.  But maybe partly because virus writer ** is still young and immature and still formulating there set of morals to live there life by they take exception to being called the names simply because they were experimenting.   I honestly think some young virus writers are, for lack of a better phrasing, shall we say turned to the dark side of the force because of what they perceive as attacks against them indirectly because of someone casting stones at what may just be a passing fancy or interest in virus writing.  That is not to say that relieves the young (or old for that mater) virus writer of any moral obligation.      Just to make my opinion perfectly clear in this mater.  I see **nothing* wrong per say with writing a virus for either personal edification or to learn something or just because someone is interested in it for what ever reason or just because they want to.  I do however think it wrong for any reason to set a virus loose on the public.  Even a so called **harmless** virus that doesn't delete any files or harm data in any way shape nor form can just by replicating and prorogating clog mail servers.

I'm not tryin' to pick a fight, but that's hardly profound. And unfair. She is elitist, though, which isn't too atypical of a lot of coders, or a lot of technologists I know. Everyone's stupid, but people like me . That's nice.
