Maybe you would like to discuss school vouchers while we are at it.  I have plenty say about that too. I don't really know anything about school vouchers, aside from little bits in the news.  I'd like to know what you have to say on the subject. I feel very strongly about school vouchers .  I see red every time Bob Dole or LaMar Alexander mentions school vouchers for poor children.  They always intimate  that if these children in Washington D.C. had vouchers they too could go to the same school as Chelsea Clinton or one just like it.  Since the tuition at Chelsea's school is something like $10,000 a year that is a ridiculous notion.  School vouchers sound wonderful and make a great thing for Republicans to run on.   In fact it is a snare and a delusion and eminently impractical.  It would drain money from the public school system which is most undesirable.  The amount of the voucher for each child would not be enough to pay the tuition at most private schools. There is also a little matter of transportation.         I can best use San Antonio as an example.  A few years ago some of the best parochial schools closed their doors because they simply went broke.  There isn't much room in the remaining private schools to accomodate all these students with vouchers.  The Christian schools and other miscellaneous schools are not overly anxious to accept students who do not have very good academic records.  They aren't equipped to handle children with special needs.  People have said well we can just open up new schools.  My answer to that is that it takes years and years to develop a good school.  It doesn't happen overnight. Some private schools are better than others, and one can't just assume that a school is better because it is private than a public school.  Now getting back to the public school system
